Dance Dance Revolution

Sometimes you’ve just got to break down and dance. Especially if a big, scary bee has taken over your living room.

That was the MOMent we enjoyed today:

The Munchkin and I start our after-work/post-daycare routine up in our living room, but due to the gorgeous weather we’ve been experiencing lately a ginormous bee has found its way into our house and is not happy about it. As a result we quarantine ourselves down in our family room – away from the angry bee that keeps smacking itself into the windows upstairs in a fruitless attempt to escape.

To distract ourselves from the terrifying bee (did I mention it was huge – like the size of my thumb? And that I’m not a fan of bees?), which we can still hear rapping on the windows, we decide to have our own dance party.

It is a perfect distraction. As the music plays, The Munchkin begins bouncing, then swaying from side to side. She takes turns lifting one foot, then the other off the floor, trying to figure out just how to move to the beat.

Then, both of her pink butterfly shoes are planted firmly on the floor and the top half of her body begins dancing. Her arms swing down by her sides and then up into a clap and she giggles with delight at her musical skills.

Inspired by her, and to encourage her to continue, I begin dancing too. Any neighbors who may be strolling by, possibly catching a glimpse of the action, probably think I’m a lunatic (or that perhaps I’ve been stung by that giant, horrifying bee). Especially because from their perspective, The Munchkin isn’t down there and I’m bobbing around by myself. In this moment though, I  don’t care what anyone may think. We’re having fun.

Despite my exaggerated movements, The Munchkin is so involved with her own moves, it takes her a few moments to notice mine.  When she finally does, she studies me for a minute, and then a huge smile consumes her face. Cheeks dimple, her nose wrinkles and laughter flows. She begins mimicking my clapping, swaying and head shaking.

The music continues and we’re both wiggling and giggling, having the best time.

I still don’t know what ever happened to that bee. Perhaps even he enjoyed our dance party. We were having too much fun to care.
